# LaTeX Bibliographies

As I am part of the ToriOS documentation team I was asked yesterday how I was creating bibliographies in LaTex.

I am doing this in a simplier way than creating a separate bibliography file.

Within the document I am using

 Source code
\begin{thebibliography}{1} % 1 is a random guess of the total number of
%references
\end{thebibliography}

Then within those tags using

 Source code
\bibitem{xterm}
\url{http://invisible-island.net/xterm}}

In order to list each entry, (there are a lot more options than just quoting a URL.)

When you want to add a citation to a reference can use

The main terminal emulation is xterm \cite{xterm} which can be found on the menu system.

When the document builds this then appears as

The main terminal emulation is xterm [1] which can be found on the menu system.

The number appears as a link to the appropriate entry in the list of bibliographic references at the end of the document, which is where a bibliography is normally found.
