Xournal is an application for notetaking, sketching, keeping a journal using a stylus. It is free software (GNU GPL) and runs on Linux (recent distributions) and other GTK+/Gnome platforms. It is similar to Microsoft Windows Journal or to other alternatives such as Jarnal, Gournal, and NoteLa

I have it installed on my system,  I find it useful if I quickly want to print some lined paper. However it is also good, as the above description says, for note taking where you want to also draw pictures etc on the page.

Clearly programs such as this are superseded by what tablets and phones can do,  however if you want a desktop application that is capable of doing some of the tasks you would use a phone for then this is something to consider.   Especially if you’re doing distance learning with for example the Open University,  and you want to take some on screen notes.

Xournal has a number of paper types you can select from. Two examples are above.   However you have access to a nice range of features for creating notes,  diagrams, pictures,  etc.

sudo apt install xournal

On my system it required the following extra packages to install

The following additional packages will be installed:
libgnomecanvas2-0 libgnomecanvas2-common
The following NEW packages will be installed
libgnomecanvas2-0 libgnomecanvas2-common xournal

So installation is easy.
