Xubuntu and Fritizing

* Since posting this, I have found a fix,  please scroll to the END of the post, where you will find a link.   I am leaving the main body intact for historical / context purposes.

I still seem to be having issues installing fritzing on xubuntu 14.04

this is what I am doing

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get install fritzing

This produces the following error :

psutton@ER1401:~$ sudo apt-get install fritzing

As the package is downloaded to :

/var/cache/apt/archives/fritzing_0.9.0b_i386.deb

I ran cd /var/cache/apt/archives/

then from there run

sudo dpkg -i fritzing_0.9.0b_i386.deb

which produces

psutton@ER1401:/var/cache/apt/archives$ sudo dpkg -i fritzing_0.9.0b_i386.deb

I have also tried to manually remove the xml file in

/usr/share/fritzing/sketches/index.xml

with sudo rm /usr/share/fritzing/sketches/index.xml

but this seems to fail.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful

Further to the above set of issues I seem to have found a fix
